The Warlord and the Princess — the first story.

Obviously, we’re still under construction, but as a thank you for coming by, I wanted to share one of my short stories. This was the very first story I sold. It was accepted by Beyond the Rose, an Irish magazine, which I think is no longer in print, and I got five dollars. It then sold as a reprint to Andromeda Spaceways In-Flight Magazine, the fine Australian SFF magazine. If you haven’t ever read it, you should check it out. It’s very cool.

I have a lot of fondness for this story. It was the first story that I wrote that I felt like I knew what I was doing. I had just read Ann Lamott’s Bird By Bird and it was like a dam had broken and I got it. I got how to tell a story. I think I wrote this one in two nights.

Read Patrice’s fantasy short story.

Thanks! I was soooo excited when the editor wrote that he wanted to buy the story. It’s still a thrill to sell a short story. I’m glad I won’t ever get jaded about it. (Plus, the sales are still somewhat few and far between.)
